It's my way of exploring and making sense of the world.
I've been a professor of architecture specializing in structures since 1995. Teaching quickly taught me that students learn more about why structures stand up when they first understand why they fall down. Which is actually the same thing, but in reverse. And this is true of life in general, I've found. Learning about failure is also learning about success.
And so I'm drawn to writing about ordinary people in extraordinary situations who learn to get back up again. I draw upon my own experiences and those of others to examine the complexities of rising and renewal.
